I Was Only Twelve

by Brittany, Age 12

I was only twelve years old.
The nurse came in and that's when I was told.
I had to leave the room, I was scared and confused.
My heart beating in my throat, my tears surrounded me like a moat.
He was my dad, all that I had.

I cried there alone, sobbing there I moaned.
The nurse came in, I knew he was gone, as I screamed inside, I heard the angels' song.

I attempted suicide, experimented with drugs, I stole ,became a criminal, a wanted thug.
I am barely 17, I'm lying in this bed. I have a little girl now, I understand what's running through her head.
I was given a second chance at life, I am now in rehab,
Every day I pray and thank my dad.
