The Magic Cookies

by Jocelyn Taylor Doyle, Macks Creek, Missouri, USA, Age 11

Jimmy Moon was an eleven year old boy that didn’t believe in magic. Everyone in his grade at school did. Well, everyone except him. He didn’t believe it because he said you couldn’t prove it. Even his girlfriend Jocelyn Doyle believed in magic. She told him that it is real, but he didn’t seem to believe her.

On the last day of school before Christmas break they always gave each other a present. And they always told each other to open them on Christmas morning and then call one another. They always did it. Even if they were just friends. They started the tradition in the first grade when they first met. Then they became boyfriend and girlfriend in the third grade. So they had been a couple for three years because they were in the sixth grade. They liked each other a lot. And everyone was used to saying “Jimmy and Jocelyn, do you guys want to come over or something?” because they would never do something with a friend without each other.

Well, it was the day before the last day of school and they said they were going to get each other’s present today. Jocelyn knew what she was going to get Jimmy. But Jimmy didn’t know what he was going to get Jocelyn. When they went home they called each other like they always did. Then they had to get off the phone and get each others present. Jocelyn went to the magic store to get something for Jimmy. Jimmy went to ‘Duncan’s Jewelry Store’ to get something for Jocelyn.

“Mom?” Jimmy said.
“What”? Said Jimmy’s mom.
“ How much is the most I can spend on Jocelyn? I mean we have been a couple for a long time and I want to move on to the next level of gifts for her,” Jimmy said.
“ Well, what were you having in mind?” She asked.
“ A ring maybe, or a necklace from Duncan’s Jewelry Store,” he replied.
“ Well Jimmy that stuff costs a lot from that store.”
“ Well, I have two hundred dollars from last Christmas still. And the rest you can take out of my bank account.”
“ Well, if that is what you want to do then I guess I will let you. I mean it’s your money so you can do whatever you want to do with it so fine,” she said.
“ Thanks mom!” he said.

So, they went to the bank and got his money out of his account and he already had his money from the last Christmas for Jocelyn’s present. So, he counted his money and all together it was one thousand and five hundred dollars. So, they went to the jewelry store and he bought her a diamond necklace. It was real diamond, and it cost him all of his money. But he didn’t care. Then he went home and he wrapped the present and got it ready for tomorrow.

“ Mom, can we go to the magic store to get Jimmy’s Christmas present? I already know what I want and I have the money for it,” Jocelyn said.
“ Oh yeah. Let me go get my keys,” she said. So, she got her keys and they went to the magic store.

Jocelyn got her gift for Jimmy. And then she got home and ate dinner, wrapped her gift for Jimmy, took a shower and went to bed. Jimmy did the same thing except he already had his present for Jocelyn wrapped. Then they woke up at seven o’clock. Jocelyn got up took another shower, got dressed, ate breakfast, put on make-up, and did her hair. Jimmy got up ate breakfast, took a shower, got dressed, and did his hair. Then they both walked out to the bus stop and they waited for the bus. They both rode the same bus so they could sit together and talk. Then they arrived at the school and at the end of school they exchanged gifts and they said their goodbyes to everyone. And when they got home Jimmy called Jocelyn and they talked for thirty minutes and said what they were going to do on the Christmas break. Then when they were done talking, Jocelyn went over to Jimmy’s house for dinner. They had steak, mushrooms with onions, and brussels sprouts. And they also had Mountain Dew for a drink. Then Jimmy and Jocelyn went up to Jimmy’s room. Jocelyn saw the present she gave Jimmy on his dresser un-opened. This was a good thing.

“ Jimmy, I want you to open your present now,” she said.
“ Why?” he asked.
“ Because it is a good thing and I want you to,” she said.
“ No. It will ruin the tradition. I can’t,” he told her.
“ Please? I want to see your face. We can make it a new tradition,” she said with a pouty look.

“ Fine,” he said at last. So, he reached for the present and they sat on his nice made bed. He pulled the wrapping paper off of it and he read the card and opened the plain cardboard box it was in. Then he looked inside and he saw cookies. “What the heck is this?” he asked.

“ Well, what the heck does it look like?” she asked him.
“ It looks like a worthless box with worthless cookies inside!” he said.
“ Well, I’m glad you like them. As a matter of fact it seems like you love them,” Jocelyn said sarcastically.
“ Well, they are just worthless cookies!” he said.

“ No they are not! They are cookies that have magic in them! You make a wish and then you eat one! Then the next morning the wish will come true! So, I am so glad I got them for you because it seems like you like them!” Jocelyn yelled sarcastically. With that she didn’t say another word and she ran out of his room.

"She knows I don’t believe in magic, so why did she get these for me? I mean I bought her a beautiful diamond necklace!" he thought. "Well, she did go through all the trouble. So I will try it I guess." So, he thought as hard as he could so he could make his wish. He thought and thought, but he couldn’t find something to wish for. But suddenly he thought of something. He wanted to be rich. So he said out loud “I want to be rich!” and he put on his pajamas and went to bed.

Jocelyn got home and she was very upset. She thought since he opened his gift that she would open her gift and see what it was. And she thought she would throw it away. So, she went to her room and got it off of her desk and she opened the box. It was a diamond necklace! She couldn’t believe it! She just got yelled at by him and he hated his gift she gave him. But she loved the gift so she was mad at him but she wasn’t. She thought of calling him but she decided not to. So, she put on her pajamas and went to sleep.

Jimmy had a dream that Jocelyn and him got to go on a cruise in the Bahamas and the sand was white and the water was clear. And she was in her bikini and he was in his trunks and they were tanning in the back of the huge boat. Then he told her he loved her and she poured her drink that was in her coconut cup with a little umbrella in it. And she said I hate you!! And she jumped off the boat and into the water. And he jumped in after her. And then he woke up screaming. And when he looked around everything was the same. ‘I was right. Those stupid cookies aren’t real.’ So, he went back to sleep. And what he didn’t notice was the time. It was eleven fifty five and Jocelyn said it would come true when he woke up the next morning. And the morning starts at twelve.

Jocelyn had a dream that she and Jimmy were in her room and she said she loved him and he yelled “I hate you!” And he jumped out the window. And she dived out to save him. And she woke up screaming. But then she tried to go back to sleep and she couldn’t, and so, she got up and she found one of the cookies that she had given Jimmy. She remembered that she accidentally dropped one. So, she thought of a wish and she made one. "I wish I was rich," she said. And she went to sleep.

Jimmy woke up the next morning and there was what looked like a butler at his door, and his room was huge and had tons of stuff in it. And then his butler, which was named schlock, picked out his outfit and got him dressed. And Jimmy went down for breakfast and it was like a feast! His mom and dad were there eating and they said that they were going to let him go pick Jocelyn up in the limo to go shopping.

Jocelyn woke up with a nanny right beside her and she had her breakfast and her outfit picked out. “Mees, you are to vee going out to zee mall vis your voyfriend Jimmy,” she said in an accent.

“ My boyfriend?” she asked.
“Vy yes, you have veen going out vith each otheyr vor zree years. Zon’t you vremember?” the nanny asked whose name was Hannah.
“ Oh yeah. I am sorry. I just had a little moment,” Jocelyn said.
“ Oh vell yees it ees quite alvright,” Hannah told her.

So, Jocelyn got ready in a cute pink little mini skirt and a cute white spaghetti strap shirt and a hot pink purse that held her cell phone. Which is a Motorola v265. And lip gloss, eyeliner, eye shadow, and mascara. And she had hot pink little heels that kind of looked like stilettos but they weren’t. And she sat on her couch in the huge mansion she was in. And then she heard a horn honking and she walked out the door and into the limo with Jimmy.

They looked at each other and they looked worried.
“What is going on?” Jocelyn asked.
“I don’t know! Last night I had a cookie and I wished that I was rich and it came true!”
“Me too! Wait… You used the cookie! You did!! I told you it worked!” she said.
“ Yes I used it. And I see you opened your present and you are wearing it,” Jimmy said.
“Well yeah. And I love it.”
“I am sorry that I did that yesterday and you were right.”
“It’s okay. I forgive you. And now since we are rich lets make the best of it and shop our butts off!”
“ Oh yeah!” he said.

And with that they were at the mall and they walked in with their nanny and they looked around and their nanny bought everything for them. They loved every minute of it.

Five thousand dollars later they were done shopping and they went back into the limo and they went to the second fanciest restaurant in all of New York. Then when they finished eating lunch they were on their way home and they saw a go-kart track and they decided to go there and race. Jocelyn picked a pink car and Jimmy got a dark charcoal colored car. Then they raced and got a tie. Then they went home and then later they went out to dinner at the first fanciest restaurant in New York.

Then they did the same thing the next day and the next day. And two weeks after that. And finally they got tired of it so Jocelyn called Jimmy and she said she was tired of doing the same thing over and over. So, they decided that they would use the cookies to wish that they were not rich anymore.

So, Jocelyn went over to Jimmy’s house and they went to the kitchen to get the cookies. He said they were in a little plastic baggie in the cabinet. So they looked in the cabinet and they were not in there.

“ Let’s go ask your mom,” Jocelyn suggested.
“ Okay, good idea,” Jimmy answered.
So, they went over to the living room where his mom was.
“Mom, where are the cookies in the plastic bag that I put in the cabinet?” Jimmy asked her.
“ Oh, I put them in the fridge.”
“ Okay, thanks mom,” Jimmy said.

So, they went to the fridge and they looked in there and they were not in there.
“ Let’s go ask your dad,” Jocelyn said.
“ Okay,” Jimmy replied.
So, they went to the game room where Jimmy’s dad was.
“ Dad, where are the cookies that mom put in the fridge?” Jimmy asked.
“ They are in the freezer,” he said.

So, they ran over to the kitchen and looked in the fridge. And there they were. Two magic chocolate chip cookies. And they grabbed the cookies and ran up to Jimmy’s room. And they said “I wish we weren’t rich anymore. And no one remembered anything about us being rich.” And Jimmy told his butler to drop Jocelyn off at her house. They went into the limo and they dropped Jocelyn off at her house. Jocelyn and Jimmy both put on their pajamas and fell asleep.

And then the next morning they were in their regular rooms that were in their regular house with the regular people that lived there. And then Jimmy called Jocelyn and Jimmy came over to Jocelyn’s house and they crumbled up the cookie and they put it down the toilet. And they sat side by side next to the fire with hot chocolate.
