6 Ways To Bounce Back From Burnout And Enjoy The Summer

Exams nearly killed you. You have a bad case of burnout. Here’s how to revive.

You just finished exams and now all you want to do is sleep through the next few months.

As tempting as that sounds, it’s important to recharge your batteries quickly. Follow these easy tips and you can enjoy your summer, work hard at your job and avoid hibernation due to burnout.

1. Shut it down

Get your rest in. You’ve earned it! You might have trouble relaxing at first, as you’re used to doing
three things at once for the last few weeks. Doing nothing might actually make you feel uneasy in the beginning, but you’ll soon settle
into the swing of it.

Try and take a week or two to recover, physically and emotionally. But don’t take too long or you’ll find yourself on permanent shutdown.

2. Say no

During your time off, you may have to say no to a few invites. Whether you get invited to go to a movie when you just want to stay in, or your parents’ friends ask you if you have time to mow their lawn, don’t be afraid to politely decline. People will assume that being idle means you’re available. Make it clear that you’re taking a bit of a break.

3. Know yourself

Some people don’t relax by lying on a couch watching Net‚flix. Instead, they relax by doing something active. If this sounds like you, embrace it and act accordingly. Being lazy will actually do you more harm than good. So take on a project of some sort, and that just might be what helps you relax.

Some relax by isolating themselves, while others actually unwind by being around people. It’s important to know which you are, and luckily, you probably already do. The worst thing you can do is waste your time trying to unwind alone, when you really should be out with friends.

4. Turn it back on

After enjoying some time off, get back out there and be productive. If you already have a summer job, that will do. If you need to find a summer job, build a steady job search regiment to get yourself back into a routine. It doesn’t have to be a rigorous schedule, just something to keep you on track and allow you to measure your progress.

This doesn’t mean “all work and no play,” but it’s always good to find a balance between setting goals and relaxation.

5. Get outside

Not to sound too much like your mom, but spend some time outside and enjoy the sunshine. You’ve been cooped up in your room and stuffy libraries. Reintroduce yourself to fresh air. You’re probably starved of vitamin D right now, which you can get from the glorious sunrays. Go for a walk, or spend a day at a park. It will do your body wonders. Recreational sports and clubs are another good way to get back out there. This will help you stay active.

6. Indulge yourself

Reward yourself by unapologetically enjoying your guilty pleasure. That can mean anything from having a reality TV marathon to eating a bunch of junk food. Go nuts and just do it! If you want to go on a shopping spree, you’ve earned it. Hard work needs to be rewarded, so don’t forget to treat yourself.
