We Chat With Demi Lovato About Offering Herself As Mentor

demi-lovato

Before she was on stage performing to sold out crowds, walking the red carpet and starring in her own television show, Demi Lovato was like most teens.

She had dreams and was determined to make them come true. The award-winning singer, songwriter and actress continues to achieve goals she never thought were possible such as the release of her fourth album, Demi, and reprising her role as a judge for the next season of The X-Factor (U.S.).

And now she’s giving back. So, whether it’s having your own song played on the radio, or helping to make a difference in the world, your dreams can come true sooner than you think with the help of Demi and Acuvue brand contact lenses, with their 1-DAY Contest.

Not only does the contest give teens the chance to achieve their goals, but they also get to be mentored for a day by one of their favourite celebrities including Demi, Joe Jonas, Shay Mitchell and basketball star Dwight Howard. Who better to get advice from than these mentors who have first-hand experience of what it’s like to go for what you want and get it? No dream is too big and all goals are possible.

To enter the contest, you have to upload a 30 to 60 second video showcasing what you hope to achieve one day, how you find the confidence to pursue your dreams and why you should be chosen for this opportunity. Full contest rules and more information can be found at www.YouTube.com/Acuvue.

For this once-in-a-lifetime chance, it’s important to stand-out in your video, which is why Faze caught up with Demi to find out her advice for hopefuls and how her experience has been so far.

What made you get involved with the ACUVUE 1-DAY Contest?
Demi Lovato: I originally got involved with the contest because I think it’s important for teens to be encouraged to reach their dreams. The 2013 ACUVUE 1-DAY Contest gives teens the opportunity to submit videos about their dreams on the ACUVUE Brand YouTube channel, and the winners get to be mentored for a day by myself or one of the other celebrities involved—they also win a trip to L.A. and a one-year supply of ACUVUE contact lenses. My experience with the ACUVUE 1-DAY Contest has been amazing so far. There is no better feeling than helping other people who have big dreams, like I did, achieve their goals.

Why did you want to be a mentor again this year?
DL:
I wanted to be a mentor again because I love what the contest does for teens and how it inspires them to believe that anything is possible. I had a great time last year and am excited to be a part of it again this year. Seeing the happiness and excitement in the faces of the young people I have mentored is really rewarding.

What are some things you think it takes for entrants to stand out in their videos?
DL:
I think it takes creativity, passion and fearlessness to stand out.  People entering this contest should never be afraid to be themselves. A confident person always stands out from the crowd.

In what ways do you relate to these teens with dreams?
DL:
I can definitely relate because it wasn’t always a smooth road for me—but I never lost hope. Once people started hearing my music and I saw how they connected with it, I was encouraged to keep persevering. When my song “Give Your Heart A Break” made it to number one, I realized how that song impacted so many people, and that inspired me to get back in the studio and write more songs!

What do you feel you can offer as a mentor?
DL: As a mentor, in addition to providing a fun and upbeat environment, I can share first-hand experience about times where I had to overcome an obstacle to reach a goal. This helps the people I mentor to realize that everyone feels similar emotions as they do; it just takes courage, confidence and perseverance to keep pushing through to reach your dreams.

What advice can you give for those who want to enter the contest?
DL: The advice I would give is to be confident and always believe in yourself, every step of the way. Believing in yourself and your abilities is the most important way to help make dreams become reality.
