Cherri Bomb: These Girls Can Rock

Cherri Bomb

As first-timers to Canada, this four-piece girl band came to Toronto as a part of this summer’s Vans Warped Tour. Not every teenage girl gets the opportunity to travel around the world with her best friends and perform in front of huge crowds, but Cherri Bomb is living the rock star life.

They are definitely not letting their age get in their way (each member is between 14 and 16 years old). Julia Pierce (lead guitar, vocals), Rena Lovelis (bass, vocals), Nia Lovelis (drums, vocals) and Miranda Miller (rhythm guitar, keyboards, vocals) are taking the music industry by storm and showing that they have what it takes to rock out on stage, not only with amazing energy, but also with the talent to match.

They describe themselves as a blend of Paramore, the Foo Fighters and Muse, and they’ve created a sound that uniquely showcases their strong musicality and vocals. They’ve been exposed to music their entire lives and are taking it to the next level, now with their debut album, This is the End of Control.

“When we had to pick what songs would be on the album, we had 20 too many, so it was difficult,” says Nia. “But it was awesome and we had a great time in the studio.”

In addition to their set at Toronto’s Molson Amphitheatre for the Warped Tour, they played a special showcase at Sneaky Dee’s with AndPOP.com, which was streamed online live for fans all over the world. They sure know how to put on a rocking show. As only their second city on the tour, they are looking forward to hitting the road for 17 more stops.

And as young, passionate musicians in this often-intimidating industry, the girls of Cherri Bomb believe that anyone can make their dreams a reality, and are proof that age is just a number.

“We want to inspire people to not let anyone get in the way of their dreams,” says Miranda. “If you can think about it, you can do it.”
