Let’s start off by saying that you need to watch Fast and Furious 6 before you see the latest installment of the series. If you haven’t, there will be major spoilers if you keep reading—can’t say I didn’t warn you.
In the last movie, Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his crew went to England to fight major bad guy Owen Shaw. In the process they found Letty (Michelle Rodriguez), who was married to Dominic, but who had lost all of her memory and was now riding with the bad guys. To cut this short, Dominic won Letty back and put Owen Shaw in the hospital—that’s the end of Fast and Furious 6.
Now in Furious 7, Owen’s big, bad brother Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) is looking for revenge against Dominic and his crew—Mia (Jordana Brewster), Brian (Paul Walker), Roman (Tyrese Gibson), Tej (Ludacris) and Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson). This guy Deckard is a trained, professional killer and Dominic can’t win this battle alone.
His crew is assembled to help Hobbs take down a group of mercenaries who have captured a hacker named Ramsey (Nathalie Emmanuel) who has created a program called “God’s Eye” that can track people through any and every kind of technology, even your iPhone’s camera. (It’s pretty scary technology). In return, the “shadow hunters” will let Dominic use “God’s Eye” to capture Deckard Shaw.
Will Letty’s memory come back? Will they find Ramsey? Will she help them? Can the crew pull off one more heist or will they have to attend another funeral?
The Breakdown:
Action: Cars don’t fly, or do they? The best part of any Fast and Furious movie are the sweet rides. With cool cars coupled with combat and bullets, we have a pretty good action-filled drama in front of us.
Family: Dominic’s crew isn’t just a bunch of talented friends, they’re his family. And his family is growing and they’re getting older and having children. There’s a lot more at stake than one person dying. A death can destroy a family and Dominic isn’t about to let that happen.
Emotional: It’s no secret that Paul Walker died in a car crash last year and that his brother is playing his double in a few scenes in this movie. Every time Paul Walker’s character (Brian) is in an intense scene where it looks like he’s about to die, I’m literally holding my breath. One of the best scenes in the movie is towards the end where they dedicate the movie to Paul Walker. Vin Diesel talks about his long lost friend and they show a video montage of Paul Walker and the gang from back in the day. I’m not ashamed to say that I cried—and not just a few tears.
