FAZE Q&A with Willow Shields

Willow Shields Primrose Everdeen

Burning for more behind-the-scenes info? Faze caught up with Willow Shields who plays Primrose Everdeen – sister to Katniss.  She
gives us the 411 on her character, shares her favourite scene in Mockingjay Part 1 and dishes what it’s like to work with Jennifer Lawrence on set.

What helped you to decide to become an actress?

Willow: I was actually so young when I started The Hunger Games, 12 years old, and I wasn’t sure at first. Two years into it I decided that I love these people, I love doing this every day – it is just so exciting to me because I get to learn something new every day that I’m on set.

Why did you decide to take the role as Primrose Everdeen?

W: Going into it, it was just an amazing role. Part of it is that when you read the first book, Prim is kind of the reason why all of this begun and that’s a very interesting thing that I think some people forget. I think it’s awesome to see how Prim grows throughout the series as well.

What do you and Prim share in common?

W: There are not a lot of similarities because she lives in such a different world – it’s hard to relate to her on many levels. But honestly, the biggest thing is her relationship with Katniss. I have that relationship with Jen (Jennifer Lawrence) but I also have that relationship with my twin sister.

Do you share the same love for cats as Prim?

W:  I love all animals but I’m more of a dog personal actually. But I had a lot of fun filming on set with a cat; that cat was actually great.

Is there a specific scene in the Mockingjay Part 1 that had you on edge?

W: A lot of the scenes in Mockingjay Part 1 have you on edge. They had suspenseful scenes but there are also compassionate, heart-to-heart scenes – it’s a good mix. My favourite scene is the last scene in this film. I think that it will catch the fans attention and leave them in the theatre just freaking out.
What’s it like working alongside Jennifer Lawrence?

W: She has been so amazing to work with – she is so talented. She won as Oscar and has been nominated like three times. I’ve learned a lot about acting just by watching her act. Jennifer really acts with her eyes, and that’s something that I’ve learned; you see emotion through her eyes. Even just life in general, she’s always been a mentor to me.

If you could be a part of any movie which one would you pick and why?

W: I think I would pick something like The Breakfast Club because it’s such an iconic film. To me, I love stylized films. Any director that can stylize their films is exciting to me. The Breakfast Club is so iconic but also so real, it’s a real story about these teenagers and they portrayed them perfectly.

What advice would you give to someone who’s trying to pursue their dream job?

W: Persevere and keep going because everybody goes through their rough patches and it’s a rollercoaster.  It takes a lot of work to get where you want to be. For me, especially in Hollywood, there’s a lot of rejection so you need to be a really strong person, work really hard and really love what you’re doing because if you don’t love it then it’s going to be very difficult to keep going.
