Issue 02: Editor’s Letter (and Your Feedback)

Cover of Faze Magazine Summer 2000

When I first came up with the concept of this magazine I interviewed a lot of you and asked what you wanted to read about. I quickly found out there wasn’t much that you didn’t want to know about! It was obvious how diverse all of your interests were, and so I’ve tried to offer a broad scope of subjects without making one seem more important than the other. In fact, that is what Faze is all about – knowing a little bit about everything.

When I asked for your thoughts and opinions on the premiere issue, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. I know you had said you wanted something different but did you really want to know about Leonardo Da Vinci, exotic animals, exotic places, world issues and business? YES, YES, YES!

Your feedback has been great. In fact, some of you may see some of your suggestions implemented in this issue; like teen writers and more pictures. Your comments and ideas will shape the look and content of Faze so let us know what’s on your mind – after all, you’ve made it very clear that there’s a lot going on in there!

Good Reading!

Letters To The Editor

THE OTHER SIDE
I found your story on Afghan women [The Oppression of Women in Afghanistan] disturbing. I checked out more information on the net and can’t believe some of the horror stories. However, I also found out that many women are happy to live in this society as it reflects their culture and beliefs. I think you should have included their side of the story.
Danielle, 17, Cyberspace

Dear Danielle,
Two sides are better than one and I will always try to address both, but in this situation I felt that we should speak for the women who are no longer able to speak for themselves. I highly respect the religion and culture of the Afghan people but I find it hard reconcile such harsh treatment of women with the will God.

ART SECTION
For the first time I have read a magazine that informs me about things that I care about. I think there should be an art section dedicated to the drawings and poems of teens.
Mila Jones, 16, New Brunswick

Good idea, coming soon, definitely online.

RANT & RAVES
I think it was great that you covered the rave scene [Reality of Raves} but it was way too short and didn’t get into enough detail. I’ve been to a few raves and there is sooo much more to tell!
Jason, Montreal, Quebec

Let’s leave some mystery, shall we?

OTHER THINGS
This magazine is exactly what teens need. It takes the focus and the pressure away from being good-looking or skinny. It’s great to read about the other things that are going on in the world besides fashion. Thanks.
