ACUVUE set out on a mission to help young people realize that dreams can come true.
As part of their 1-DAY contest, one lucky Canadian from a small town in British Columbia was chosen to be mentored by actress Meaghan Martin and experience a day he would never forget.
Dayton Ricketts dreams big of becoming a music and video artist. He has the passion and determination and—thanks to the help of Ms. Martin—he now has the confidence, training and is one big step closer to making that dream come true.
Dayton, along with four other winners, were flown to Los Angeles, California where they were surprised with one-one meetings with renowned professionals and once in a lifetime opportunities.
Imagine what it’s like to be with someone, every step of the way, while their dream is becoming a reality?
We caught up with Meaghan who, as a paid official host of the ACUVUE 1-DAY contest, acts as the magic genie, granting wishes the winners didn’t even think could be made true. Meaghan shares what it’s like to be a celebrity mentor and how other hopeful teens like Dayton can begin their journey to success.
Why is being a mentor important to you, and what’s the most rewarding thing about it?
Meaghan Martin: I think that everybody growing up has their mentors—and not even just growing up, even when you’re an adult you have your mentors—and so it’s important to give back, go out there and do what you can for other people by mentoring them.
What was the most memorable part about mentoring Dayton?
MM: I think the most memorable part was watching Dayton’s dream come true. The day itself was pretty memorable by being his mentor and having [the opportunity] to watch the day unfold and watch Dayton’s smile grow bigger and bigger and bigger as the day went on. It was very rewarding.
And the most challenging?
MM: I think there’s a lot of pressure with being a mentor. But I think working with ACUVUE made being a mentor a lot easier. They gave me the opportunity to be the kind of mentor that I always wanted to be. They gave me the ability to be a great mentor and give Dayton these great opportunities.
If you could be paired with a celebrity to help guide and mentor you throughout your career, who would it be and why?
MM: I’d definitely say Anne Hathaway, because she has made great career choices. I think she is so talented and really has everything going for her right now.
If you wanted to create an environment where motivation can thrive, what’s the first thing you would do?
MM: I think that the best thing that you can do is really just get whoever you are trying to motivate to relax; that’s the first thing. Creativity is best when everyone feels comfortable in their own skin and are being who they really are. Being who you are is where creativity comes from.
