The 2015 Spring/Summer Collection from OPI is taking us to our favourite tropical destination: Hawaii! The new collection of 12 shades ranges from muted tones of mint, peach, pink and nude to bold hues of coral, green, purple and gold to deep tones of mauve, violet, red and blue.
The collection will be available in February 2015, so until then, here’s your sneak peek at the collection and a few faves that you should keep your eye out for:
1. Go with the Lava Flow: With a golden red colour, you’re thinking fiery lava, and I’m thinking fierce.
2. This Color’s Making Waves: It’s a metallic blue with tiny glass speckles, so it shimmers in the sun like the ocean!
3. Just Lanai-ing Around: It’s sort of a mauve colour, so you might be thinking, “This is my grandma’s colour,” but where have you been?! It’s all about the throwback, so this super-awesome retro colour is a must-have.
I love nail polish as much as the next 20-something-year-old, but OPI speaks to me (literally) with their unique names. Who remembers Lincoln Park After Dark from 2011? That deep, dark purple is still one of my favourite colours, and I bought it because of its name—true story!
So, let us introduce you to the girl behind the nail polish names, Suzi Weiss-Fischmann. She is the co-founder and executive VP of OPI, but we can all refer to her as “the creative genius behind OPI.” She has over 31 years of experience in the nail polish industry, creating and naming lacquers, so when Suzi came to town, Faze couldn’t help but to pick her brain.
Do you have a personal favourite from the 2015 line?
Suzi Weiss-Fischmann: All of them are my favourite! But the mint green (That’s Hula-rious!), that seems to really speak to people. It’s such a trendy shade, but it almost comes off as neutral, and it has a great name! As soon as the sun comes out, the pastel pink (Suzi Shops and Island Hops) also comes out, so those two are my favourites. You can find anything and everything in the collection.
Why is taking the time to give each nail colour a name important to you and OPI?
Suzi Weiss-Fischmann: I think it is part of OPI’s brand DNA. When we started, it was just a colour and a number; it didn’t have personality. And these names really give a personality to the shades, and the consumers totally look for it. I think the names have become just as important as the colours. We make it inspirational, sexy and fun—certainly fun! It’s all about feeling good, having fun and changing it as often as you’d like to express yourself. It’s amazing that you can do all of these things through a bottle of nail polish. Think about travelling all over the world, even to locations that you might not be able to go to—but through a bottle of nail colour, you’re there!
From the new 2015 line, which polish would you recommend for the following occasions?
First day of spring: Suzi Shops and Island Hops—I’m going shopping for my brand-new outfit with my brand-new shade of nail polish.
Prom: Something very special! I would suggest doing an accent nail with Pineapples Have Peelings Too; it’s gold with a bit of glitter. Depending on what you’re wearing, you might want to go neutral with Do You Take Lei Away? because you don’t want to clash with your outfit.
First date: You don’t want to be too outgoing, but you want to be passionate and start a conversation because of your nails, so I suggest Lost My Bikini in Molokini.
Cheering on your school team: Aloha from OPI.
First day of summer: Personally, I’m spending the first day of summer sitting on the beach with my beautiful toes wearing This Color’s Making Waves.
A night out with your girls: You can have a lot of fun with your girls, so I’d go with the popular That’s Hula-rious or Is Mai Tai Cooked? These colours are bright and fun.
Drench yourself in the colours of the Hawaii Collection by OPI, and let them lift your spirits and brighten your days. Aloha!
