Tyrel Abbott, Say Yes to the Dress Canada’s new fashion director is living his dream— and he wants you to live yours too. Tyrel took time to talk to Faze about how he got to where he is today and spilled some juicy details on what you can expect on Say Yes to the Dress Canada’s second season, which premieres early in the new year!04Tyrell_0945 copy

Raised on a farm in Alberta, Tyrel was surrounded by hardworking men and women who taught him to go after what he wanted in life. He first fell in love with all things “bling” when working at his aunt’s jewellery store as a teen. After high school, Tyrel decided to pursue a career as a hairstylist and made the transition from the farm to the city. He started his own company Tease Hair in 2007.

When noticed for his love for fashion and attention to detail, he was given the opportunity to sell bridal gowns and ended up becoming a fashion director at the Bridal and Tuxedo House in Edmonton. Since then, Tyrel has helped hundreds of brides find their dream dresses, which led to him being dubbed the “wedding whisperer” as he built quite the contact list throughout these past few years.

By working hard and having a genuine passion for helping others look and feel their best, Tyrel was given the opportunity to join Say Yes to the Dress Canada and has never looked back. He explains to Faze that opening your mind and taking chances are key points to landing the job of your dreams: “Be open to opportunities because you never know where they will come from. This job found me. I wasn’t looking for it, it found me and it’s been one of the best things I’ve ever done in my life.”

Although you may not be thinking about picking out a wedding dress anytime soon, Tyrel dished out some great advice on how you can stand out at an upcoming formal or event you may have. “I think the biggest thing would be to not be afraid of colour,” he explains. “Wearing something that is a bit bold, but still echoes who you are, I think is a is a great option. Have fun with the dress and wear something that pushes your boundaries a little bit.”

Prom season may still be months away, but in order to secure your perfect and unique look, Tyrel says that you should start your dress-hunting early. “I would think that you would want to be shopping inside of six months before [the event],” he shares. “There needs to be time for the dress to come in and there needs to be time for the alterations, which is something that I think is very important.”

And for those of you that just can’t wait to see what the new season of Say Yes to the Dress Canada holds, Tyrel gave us some hints for you to get excited about. “The fans should be most excited for the new dresses,” he says. “There’s lots of new dresses,  new sparkles and me! I’m the new kid on the block. It’ll be fun to get to know me and it’ll be fun to watch me get to know my brides.”

Tyrel’s “go-getter” attitude and positive energy is what sets him apart from the rest, and although it may seem difficult to stay motivated while trying to get your dream job, according to Tyrel, it’s important not to get discouraged. “Don’t give up. The road might be a little rough in the beginning but if you love it, you’ll never work a day in your life, right? You’ll get to go to your job and have fun. It won’t be work. It’ll be amazing and you will shine because your passion will shine through,” he says. “Research and plan it out and don’t be afraid to ask for advice. People in your life will support you and if you’re truly passionate about it the people in your life will see that.”

Check out Tyrel and his bubbly personality in the new season of Say Yes to the Dress Canada, which premieres on January 6 at 10PM  on W Network.
