Movie Review: “Spring Breakers”

Spring Breakers Poster

This crime-comedy thriller follows Faith (Selena Gomez), Candy (Vanessa Hudgens), Brit (Ashley Benson) and Cotty (Rachel Korine) on their escape from reality.

Wanting to leave their boring college lives behind, Candy, Brit and Cotty exclude Catholic and virtuous Faith when they turn to desperate measures and decide to rob a fast-food restaurant at gunpoint to fund their spring break vacation.

After getting the money they needed they are off to Florida with the hopes of living wild and free. Nights of partying, alcohol and drugs soon start to blur when they take the wild life too far and land themselves in jail for narcotic possession.

When a drug and arms dealer, Alien (James Franco) bails the girls out of jail with the intentions of having them do some dirty work, things start to turn sour. Alien promises to give them a fun and unforgettable vacation. But as they find themselves feeling uncomfortable, the girls start to question whether they are cut out for a reckless life.

Spring Breakers will have you on your toes living vicariously through their wild adventures, but it may also be the reason why your parent’s won’t let you leave the house on spring break. Showing us the wild extremity of spring break and the consequences the girls pay in the end due to their newfound lifestyle, Spring Breakers delves into the dangers and consequences that substance abuse and criminal activity can lead to.

Here’s the run down:

Crime: And lots of it. Ashley Benson and Vanessa Hudgens make committing crimes look as easy as playing a video game.

Comedy: You probably never thought James Franco could make a gangster/rapper seem funny, but he will have you laughing throughout the film at the most unexpected times.

Action: The film will keep you on the edge of your seat as you have no idea what kind of trouble these girls could get into next.
