NOV 23--Faze has been visiting high schools in the Toronto area dropping off copies of the Winter Holidays Issues to a selected schools. We've also been holding meetings with teens, gathering loads of ideas for the 2002 issues! Thanks for all your continuing input!
NOV 22--Checked out Canada's own World Champion, Jonathon Power, at a professional squash tournament in Toronto. Unfortunately he lost a very tight match to his longtime rival, Peter Nicols from Scotland who went on to win the tournament. Faze hit the town with Peter and a few of the other players after the tournament final (got home really really late!)
NOV 12--Well, we had an interesting experience with big media last night. On the CTV show "21C" we were pitted gainst American fluff magazines Seventeen, YM and ElleGirl (who we blow away in terms of Canadian circulation numbers.) CTV decided to draw the conclusion that when it comes to magazines, teens are really only interested in celebrities and prom diet tips. They conveniently ignored the Faze in-class focus group they filmed where nearly all the teens loved the idea of a mag that included a wide variety of topics (including celebs.) Instead they aired the clip where the dude (Maxim fan) says "Uh, I Think Britney should be on the front cover...(in her skimpy croptop)"
Note: Three of the last four issues had music celebrities on the front cover (the fourth had a collage of normal Canadian teens.) Faze, more than any other North American magazine is driven by its teen readers, editors and writers. Perhaps that formula doesn't work in the United States...but it is sure working in Canada! Defensive? Who me? It's late...I need some sleep...NOV 11--Watch CTV at 7:30 p.m. Sunday November 11th, to see Faze Magazine featured on a show on youth culture called "21C". It will feature our star reporter Maya and one of our many teen focus groups critiqueing a recent issue and making suggestions for the future.
NOV 5--Met Geoff from Students on Ice, a company that takes Canadian students on marine expeditions to Antartica and the North Pole. We'll be working to do something together with Geoff to help promote his very amazing trips. Stay tuned.
NOV 5--A day trip to the Capital! Ottawa...another great Canadian city...really...I'm not just saying that to suck up to the Canadian Magazine Fund. Met the very nice head of communications at the Canadian Dental Association, they have a page in the Winter Holidays Issue with some tips on how to keep your smile looking great. (Hint: Lay off the smokes and the coffee...)
NOV 4--The Michelle Branch contest has hit a hundred entries in record time considering the issue that promotes the contest is barely even out yet!
NOV 1--A Faze Road Trip to Montreal for the weekend! Lots of meetings with great people, checking out new products...and enjoying the great town of Montreal!
