DECEMBER 2004

Dec 26-One of the worst natural disasters of the last century happened today. A giant 9.0 earthquake (the largest in 40 years) struck off the coast of Indonesia producing a massive tsunami surge that has devasted coastal area throughout the Indian Ocean. Perhaps as many as 200,000 people were directly killed by the waves. Our own Paul offered to fly himself over to the region to physically work in the rescue efforts on behalf of the Red Cross and two other Canadian programs, but they weren't looking for actual volunteers, just donations. Our best wishes are with the victims and their familes.

P.S. Lorraine's first cousin 20 year old cousin was on the beach in Phuket, Thailand when the tsunami hit...she was one of the lucky ones that made it out alive and without severe injuries.
