The Polaris Music Prize announced the top 10 Canadian albums that made it onto this year’s Short List. Back in June, the Long List was revealed, but now that the final cuts have been made, the Canadian music industry is anxiously awaiting the crowning of the 2012 winner.
From the list of talented nominees, the number one album will be chosen based on artistic merit, rather than record sales and will be judged by selected music journalists, broadcasters and bloggers. The revealing of the Short List took place on July 17th at The Drake Hotel, hosted by CBC Music’s Craig Norris, with the help of Polaris Prize founder Steve Jordan.
This year, the list is full of Canadian talent from coast to coast. Here is the complete Polaris Music Prize nominee shortlist:
Cadence Weapon – Hope In Dirt City
Cold Specks – I Predict A Graceful Expulsion
Drake – Take Care
Kathleen Edwards – Voyageur
Feist – Metals
F–ked Up – David Comes To Life
Grimes – Visions
Handsome Furs – Sound Kapital
Japandroids – Celebration Rock
Yamantaka//Sonic Titan – YT//ST
The winning album will be announced on September 24th, at the Polaris Music Prize Gala. Until then, keep showing your support for your favourites!
