How To Get The Glam Look (Without Getting Carried Away)

A glam night should be packed with fun, not packed-on make-up

Faze make-up artist Sophia Whyte says, “During the day we may want a more natural look, but for evenings we can take our makeup to the next level, and create a more dramatic effect.” However, she believes “less is still more. When you make your entrance at parties, you want people to notice you and not your makeup.” Sophia offers a few tips for getting ready for a big night out.

Choosing the right foundation is key. The most important thing is finding the perfect match for your skin tone and type. Avoid covering up blemishes with excessive makeup; the makeup begins to look caked-on and draws attention to the blemish instead of away from it. Choose deep, rich colours for your eyes, cheeks and lips.

The “smokey look” is always a winner for the eyes. For the cheeks, try a darker shade that compliments your skin tone, but still looks natural. Take your time in finding the perfect lip colour that suits you. Don’t be afraid to ask for assistance at your favourite makeup counter. Using sparkles is really up to the individual, but too much in too many places is always a bad look.

“I think makeup and dressing up have always been to glamorize. When you’re dressed up and look your best you feel confident and your ‘downs’ become ‘ups’ .”
