Girls
rule the high school world in "Mean Girls". Drenched
with nasty, manipulative pranks, it's easily the best teen
movie of 2004. Then again, what can you expect from a screenplay
by Tina Fey, the hilariously talented comedian from Saturday
Night Live. Fey also stars in the movie as the sarcastic
senior math teacher, Ms. Norbury.
But
the lead character, a 16-year-old student from the African
bush, is played by the fabulously curvy, red headed Lindsay
Lohan. This was Lohan at her prime. Before her platinum
blonde, skin and bones look.
Cady
Heron (Lohan), attends high school for the very first time
after being home schooled. She quickly realizes her social
skills aren't up to par. She becomes friends with a unique,
dark artist named Janis (Lizzy Caplan) and her gay side
kick Damian (Daniel Frazese). They warn her about the clique
problem at the school and tell her to stay away from a particularly
nasty group they call "the plastics".
The
plastics consist of 3 beautiful girls, known for their money,
fashion sense and back stabbing ways. Regina (Rachel McAdams),
is the "queen bee" on campus and the leader of
the plastics. She quickly notices Cadys potential and befriends
her in the cafeteria, but only after consulting her two
followers. Gretchen (Lacey Chabert) is known for being shallow,
and Karen, is the stereotypical dump blonde.
Janis
sees the possibility for revenge on Regina when Cady agrees
to spy on the plastics and report back to Janis and Damien.
Cady wants revenge since Regina stole Cadys crush, Adam,
out from under her nose.
This
movie isn't just about typical girl fights. It goes way
beyond that. But towards the end of the movie, it gets sappy
and loses it's nerve. But it's still worth the hour and
30 minutes of your time.
Pay
backs a bitch. And that's what "Mean Girls" is
all about.
