Behind Her Smile

by Lindsay M, Toronto, Canada, Age 13

Behind her smile,
she is back alone,
alone in the darkness.
Back with tears in her eyes.

Under her smile,
you will see a helpless girl,
who see's no future in herself.
You will see a lost girl,
who has no one to turn to.
You will see a lonely girl,
who has no friends.
You will see a confused girl,
who has no clue why this happened to her.
You will see an angry girl,
who could have stopped the divorce.
You will see a worried girl,
who worries about everything and everyone.
You will see a scared girl,
who is scared of herself.
You will see a sad girl,
who is always like this.
You will see a hurt girl,
who believes no one understands.
You will see a depressed girl,
who is always down and crying.

She is just a teenage girl,
trying to get through her life.
Everytime she turns her head,
something else is thrown at her.
So she sits alone, and cries,
as she takes out her razor blade.

She looks at her scars on her ams from previous times.
She picks up her razor blade,
and glides it across her arm.
Blood drips.
She cries softly,
cleans the blood quickly,
and flushes the bloodstained toliet paper.

And once again she holds the razor blade,
in her shakey hands,
and glides it across her bloddy arm.
She places the blade aside,
and lets the blood flow down her arm.
She places her razor blade back in it's place,
and goes into her bed.
She stares at her fresh cuts,
and begins to cry.
She cries herself to sleep.

All of this happens,
behind her smile.
And you will never know!
