Heidi Klassen, British Columbia, Canada, Age 15

a million years ago i saw a man with gold
a million years ago i saw a man with silver
a million years ago i saw a man with light in his eyes
a light that twinkled when he spoke
and blurred a degree when the moon went down
the softness though was still there
believed he liked the moon with the stars as a back drop
and the owls to humm in tune
but when the moon goes down and the sun rises above the horizon
and when the robins and meadow larks take their turn in tune
when the twinkle leaves there is still the light in his eyes
and more than my heart do they hold
or was it i he liked with the moon as a back drop
i never knew then
no i never knew
a million years ago i watched that twinkle dance in the moon light
and now i know why
