It’s that wonderful time of year where school is winding down, holiday music is on the radios and there’s a general excitement in the air. What’s a better way to celebrate the holidays than to gather some friends and watch a great holiday movie! Here’s our list of our top 10 must-watch holiday movies.

Elf (2003): Will Ferrell plays the hilarious and lovable role of Buddy the Elf. In a modern twist on Christmas movies, Buddy travels to New York City to find his father, who turns out to be sort of a Scrooge. You’ll be laughing, crying and reminded of the true meaning of Christmas.

Love Actually (2003): A classic movie that captures the intertwining stories of several British characters shows us that there are many different types of love. What better time than during the holidays to be reminded that love and family are really what it’s all about?

The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993): Tim Burton’s wonderfully animated classic delves into an untraditional Christmas story. It follows Jack Skellington, the King of Halloween, who decides that he’d rather celebrate Christmas for a year. The Polar Express (2004): Tom Hanks’ skills are really put to the test as he plays a slew of characters, including the beloved conductor. The movies centres on a young boy named Billy, who boards a train outside his house that is on the way to the North Pole. The animation in this movie is fantastic and will keep you mesmerized by its beauty.

Home Alone (1990): The classic 90’s movie stars Macaulay Culkin as Kevin McCallister, who is as you might guess, left home alone at Christmas by mistake. A hilarious comedy has Kevin fighting off two burglars with a variety of creative and amazing pranks.

The Santa Clause (1994): When the real Santa disappears, Tim Allen as Scott Calvin mistakenly picks up and accepts the “Santa Clause”, a binding contract that makes him the new Santa.

Christmas with the Kranks (2004): The Kranks decide that they’re not going to celebrate Christmas this year, opting to take a cruise in the Caribbean. Plans go awry when the Kranks realize that their daughter will be coming home for the holidays…and will be expecting a Christmas celebration.

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (1964): Rudolph had a very shiny nose, which makes him a misfit amongst the other reindeer. A classic story of misfits also follows the journey of Hermey the elf, who would rather be a dentist than make toys and Rudolph, as they encounter the island of misfit toys.

Frosty the Snowman (1969): A classic and lovable movie with a catchy theme song, Frosty the Snowman is the perfect example of the Christmas spirit and magic. With an old top hat, Frosty transforms to life and becomes close friends with all the local children.

Four Christmases (2008): A modern Christmas story that follows Vince Vaughn as Brad and Reese Witherspoon as Kate, a couple that each have their own dysfunctional families. Both Brad and Kate’s parents are divorced, so they’re forced to have four Christmases in one day with each of their parents.
